WARNING! DO NOT DRINK WHILE READING!!
So, I have a flock of poultry. 6 hens, 4 roosters, 1 turkey boy, 7 ducks. My husband even helped me count them last night. I'm a paranoid bird owner - I count the flock DAILY. I thought I was doing a good job, right?
I sort the hens like this: 2 golden girls (they are big and golden speckled and fluffy), 2 brown girls (isa brown sisters) and 2 black Pearl babies. In the 4 and a half months since we have been in our "new" house, NO ONE has said, "Nope, that count is wrong." And ya'll know about the 10 chicks that they surprised us, right?
Well, today when we got home from shopping, I'm putting things away in the kitchen and look out - straight into the chicken yard where I see an odd sight. A pile of feathers not moving. First thought is a neighbours dog got loose and killed my "houdini chooks" ... so husband and I go running out....
She's all right, just taking a dirt bath. Then I turn my head....
Turns out I'm a bit stupid on the counting department AND in telling my colours, cause today I have THREE black hens. FULLY GROWN. Yesterday I'm almost positive I only had TWO.
So... Anyone care to offer a guess as to where I got an extra hen from??? She's from my stock, same colours as the other hens n roosters.
