Hours old chick with broken leg

My broody stepped on one of her freshly hatched babies. I heard it screaming, picked it up and I think she broke his leg. When I hold it on it's back, the leg flops over to the side. Assuming it would be at the hip joint? What can I do for this baby. Not sure how to splint it if it's at the hip. It's hard for him to get around currently, it tries to hop then falls over.

Sorry about your chick. They are so easily injured at that age. The articles about splinting are helpful. If you think it might be a dislocation of the hip, read post number 10 in this thread below on how to reduce a dislocated hip in a chick:

I can't tell. It seems like it might be broken. I can feel the bones but it's really limp. When I hold him on his back, if his leg is up against the body, you could touch it and it just falls right over to the side and he can't pick it up.

I have felt for broken bones and don't feel anything but when I mov it around I feel clicking. I guess I will attempt to sling it like above.
