Hey, I bought an Americauna Chick from a feed store and she seems more accustomed to people than the other chicks I got. We decided to keep her as a house chicken. Is there anything I should know? And does anyone know to potty train a chicken? There's something I never planned on typing... Thanks in advance

Haven't potty trained a chicken, but have taught One to poop on under its roost or you can order it a diaper. Diapers are what i use for my house ducks and I know they also carry them for chickens.

I heard you cant potty train chickens cause they dont have the required muscles to hold in the poops, so they basically poop right where they are when they have to poop. Dont know if its true or not just what i heard.

I have had two house chickens! The first one was an accident, an injured bird we couldn't bear to part with. Hes now outside, as the sole rooster for our hens.

The other one is on my lap right now! He's a bantam silkie/Cochin mix. We got him with the intention of keeping him indoors. He wears a diaper fashioned by cutting socks (new sewing and cheap - we just throw the diapers away when they get too dirty). He hates it for the first 5 minutes or so he has it on, then settles down.

When the diaper is full, or he has those horrible smelling liquidy cecal droppings, we simply put him back in his sleeping cage for a few minutes and empty or wash the diaper. The rest of the day he is free to roam whatever room we are in - he will usually follow us very closely. At night he sleeps on a roost and we just lay newspaper below it for easy cleaning the next morning.

He even loves our dog! He'll cuddle her and accept her kisses with dignity. (Please excuse the messy room!)
