House Goose Thread

Hey there, welcome back. Sorry to hear about your little ones, but really pleased you decided to not to stay away. I'm new to the whole chicken / goose experience and I've learned so much from the folk on this site. I look forward to learning from you too. Thanks for the input on the Muscovy

Glad you're back too. So much going on here and so much sad poor Cas is on house arrest! He had a poo yesterday that scared the crud out of me but just the one, and he's acting just as silly as normal so right now I'm praying my home lock down for him keeps him safe. There's been a lot of perfectly healthy animals just suddenly dropping like flies and I think it's got to be somehow environmental... Pesticides? Idk but Cas is in a very strict quarantine and will remain so until I feel it's safe again.

You missed a few things while you were away. Sky lost Jupiter, and last night Carr lost Pear. :( Both were healthy one minute and give the next, although Jupiter was helped over the Bridge because of a hidden injury, and Pear gave no sign of illness until he just went to sleep and didn't wake up. :( Both very sad, and both Sky and Car may not be around here much now.

I've been keeping my Cas updates to a minimum because of all the things going on and I'm really panicky about everything with him now too.

I currently don't own any waterfowl or chickens. But I have had ducks and chickens last year, I'm new to the geese also I know almost nothing but I know a bit. I currently have quail. They are a pain to brood. :/

I'm not the House Goose thread much now that it's just ChaCha my pekin, but Feathered Fashions and Sew Sammi are hosting a FowlOween Photo Scavenger Hunt and I thought of all you lovely goose keepers =)
This is my first time trying anything like this but I think it's going to be super fun! Everyone with pet fowl of any kind are welcome to join the photo fun! At the end, all the photos will be posted on Facebook and BYC so we can all enjoy the fall creativity =)
The winner may pick an item from Feathered Fashions FowlOween auction and pick a custom diaper or costume cape from Sew Sammi

You can get more info and read the rules here

I have a question for your house goose owners:

How did you manage to find a single gosling? I am trying to find way a method of obtaining either an American Buff or a Sebastopol goose, but I'm having a hard time. I do not want to buy two and give it away on craigslist; not only would I grow attached, but I would never trust a stranger unless I found them on a community space specifically for waterfowl lovers.

Advice and/or recommendations would be appreciated.

(also, I'm searching in advance for the Spring)

You're such a sweetheart. Miss Lydia has a couple goose burds that she loves. She may be able to offer you some tips.

I think best way to find a single gosling would be to go to your nearest feed store and ask them if they will be getting any in in the spring. Or call around to the feed stores in your area. You may not get the breed of choice though.

Also your state thread at "where am i where are you' look up Pa. ask there that way you may touch base with a breeder of your choice not to far away.

About all the help i can give. I would also rec talking with @EvenLater about the responsibility of having a house goose.

We have walked a fine line with our goose Lucy (hatched in May). She was a single gosling. So she was raised inside until we went to Europe for a month in July. My mom wasn't too fond of a goose in her house, so we had a house sitter. She ended up being outside more than she normally was and got attached to the chickens we have. Now when she is in the backyard with the chickens, she wants nothing to do with us and acts like a goose. When she is inside, she is a house goose again. She loves a good bath in the tub or sitting in the couch and watching TV.

Does anyone else have an indoor/outdoor goose?
