House is a mess ...

I saw the title of this thread, and thought you'd been looking in my windows!

My mom was the messiest ever- she explained one day that if a burglar came by and looked in the window he would keep going, because the house had already been ransacked!

I'm with MomtoSandE, I swore when we purchased our home it would always be ready for company! I clean every Monday, rain or shine! And in between it's always picked up or I can't just relax! We are very grateful for our home and I would like to think it shows, inside and out!

I am my mom's maid, SERIOUSLY. Every week I have to go to Jacksonville to clean her house and she pays me. Now that Hubby's truck is working again, Im back to doing that. She said she doesn't know how I keep up with everything at my house. I got 3 kids and 2 dogs and my house is cleaner then hers, LOL! She doesn't have any kids left and only has a cat but therefore she also works long hours and usually comes home too tired to do any cleaning. My house is cleaner then hers but her laundry is kept up better then mine but yet she only has her and my stepdad while I have 5, now 6 people to do laundry for.

Its just so much easier to keep it clean than to clean it like crazy weekly/monthly! lol My parents are in their 70's and cant do deep cleaning anymore so everytime we go over DH and I clean something for them, even if its something small it adds up over visits! I cant tell you the times that my parents helped us out, financially, emotionally etc..

I cleaned our apartment yesterday and I took down all the fall decorations. I vacuumed real good (Of course it already has to be done again. That's what ya get with four girls in the same apartment!) There were a few things I didn't do though, because they are the jobs of my room mates and I refuse to do it for them. I did clean up my portion of the room and windexed just about everything. I can't believe how much dust gathers in such a short time!

The only thing I'd like to do before I go home for thanksgiving is to clean out the fridge. Not much in it, but a bunch of dirt got in one of the drawer from potatoes I bought at a farmer's market!

I'm not looking forward to packing and cleaning for christmas break though. I'm a real clean freak and my room mates not so much. Its tough living with other people because of the compromises you are forced to make! My mom keeps things spotless at home, and I am the same way. My room mates like to walk in the apartment with their shoes on and they just don't clean up after themselves.

I have a very hard time keeping my house clean. I am really trying to learn how to maintain and keep up with everything. Today I cleaned up the chicken coop, vaccuumed the floors, did the dishes, and started in on my 25 loads of laundry. I swear that it is just easier (but not cheaper) to go to the laundry mat once a week. I would love to have a perfectly clean house every day, and I am going to try and do a better job.

I got so overwhelmed that I finally hired someone to come clean it really good, and now I am going to keep it up, I hope

It does feel good! I was down with illness for awhile and let too many things slide around here. Now that it's back to clean the way I like it, it'll be easier to keep up.

Kat - was raised in a military family. A proper house cleaning involves the use of multiple toothbrushes and brillo pads.

I use the FLYLADY... and though I am really bad at following the daily chores, I do try to manage all the dirty dishes before I go to bed, so the sink is shiny... If you don't know what the FLYLADY is, go onto itunes, and search FLYLADY... it will dredge up 2 different purple lady with wings squares, one is labeled tools. Go into that one and download the 'Crisis Cleaning' podcast. I use it twice a week, wed/thurs and sat/sun, depending on when company is coming. Takes me an hour, and my house looks GOOD... no, i don't sweep off piles into laundry baskets, and then hide them in the tub, but the Flylady makes me feel good about myself, my house, and she's just real nice... makes me want to spend an hour with her every few days...
