I have a slight advantage in that my Daughter is an Environmental Scientist/Plant Biologist.
So just asked Miss, and she said the best way to grow Hoya's from cutting is to put in water till they have reasonable roots, then add soil.
I did this with a couple, and it worked. Probably time to do some more.
Mind my Hoya's live out doors year round once they are in soil.
I have a number of Hoya's a big philodendron, a Monstera, a couple of Stapelias, couple of Mother in laws tounges, and a few other succulent types, plus mixed geraniums. These all live along the back of the house or under the patio. This is on the southern side of the house (in Australia) They get lots of shade from our hot summers, and the backyard is very heavily tree planted to help stop the strong winds.
Oh yes, and a bay tree, and pepper tree and lemon grass. The mulberry tree cuttings are in pots till they go out in the ground only.
