I currently have 11 chickens in our newly built 10X12 coop. I will start getting more chicks soon and need some help. I keep the chicks in a large plastic tote with the red heat lamp for 1-2 weeks in the house and then move them out to the brooder in the coop. I bought an old lizard cage from a friend that has plexi-glass sides and wire top to use as a brooder in the coop so i dont have to deal with chick dust all over the house. Now my problem is the brooder in the coop isn't large enough to hold too many chicks. I'd like something to hold up to 25 chicks. I was thinking of making a temporary run/coop beside our existing coop but have the "nursery" portable so the chicks could get grass and such. So my plan is to have the chicks in the house brooder until 2 weeks, in the coop brooder until 6 weeks, and then the "nursery" until they're 12 weeks. Once they are 12 weeks i'll let them free range with my older flock. Does this seem right? I'm pressed on space and can't think of a good solution (besides this). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
