Stocked up this spring. 52 birds in all to add to our flock.

4 guineas and 2 big breasted white turkeys. included. Big loud birds that we don't mind free ranging now. While our layers are still cooped up... So we have them in a open coop with a fenced in run and let them out in the morning. and try to shoo them in at night.

Problem is they were all brooded together and the guineas and turkeys think they should be in the chicken house. Not feasible to try and get them out to free range with almost 50 other chickens running around. Unlike the chickens they are more skittish and don't really come when called.

Was thinking if I abutted their coop to the chicken run, they might feel more relaxed. They may be losing the turkeys soon. (Not sure what the expiration date is.)

Wife wants a A-frame guinea house she saw on Instagram. The guineas and the turkeys were sleeping on the roof of my old chicken coop last night because I did not get out in time to put them to bed. Not sure how something with limited upward mobility is going to interest them....

so...

1) A-frame house okay for guineas?

2) Would abutting the guinea coop to the chicken run be good for them? OR is it the opposite?

I Might be over thinking this.

Thanks In Advance

EDIT: It was on pintrest. not instagram

I would not build an A-frame for guineas. Guineas like to roost high and an A-frame limits the possible roosting areas.

Guineas that have been raised with chickens can cause all kinds of problems when the first breeding season rolls around. I would not and did not build my guinea coop near the chicken coop.

Guineas can be taught to come to a call or sound (one person used a ring tone) with the use of treats. You do have to spend time training them. I just herd mine into their coop in the evening using a long stick as an extension of my arm..

Thanks. I appreciate that my fears were not unwarranted.

Makes more sense to rehab the old chicken coop with high roosts and move the Muscovy out to the ground level coop. My flock is so weird. They all gravitate to the most unnatural thing for them. Climbing for my ducks ground for my guineas...

Unless locked out... then I have a turkey and a bunch of guineas on the roof.

Had a wild female turkey, the kind that looks like a plymouth rock. hanging around until I went out the other night and spooked it out of a roost (spooked me actually).

Wife said it went into the run and got freaked out and flew threw the deer netting. Which makes me wonder how it is deer proof.
