Housing/nesting - possibly dumb question

Okay, we have ducklings (6) and no house yet. My question is, do they sleep and lay eggs in the same place? I wondering about dimensions for their house. Would 6-7 feet long by about 2 wide be big enough or could it be smaller? I'm hoping for smaller but am just not sure about the size for their needs.

Each duck will need at least 3 or 4 square feet of space in the coop. They'll lay eggs either in the coop or outside, they like to lay in different places all the time.

My duck Chrissy, who has laid eggs in the same spot since I got her in December has suddenly started leaving eggs all over the place!! She used to lay in their hutch. Today, it was the middle of the lawn. The other day, under a tool box. The day before, it was right by the pen entrance.

She has obviously lost her little ducky mind.
