For fifteen years my DH has wanted another GSD. He lucked out and gets offered a purebred pup. We brought the pup home this afternoon.
The problem? The pup is bonding with me, thru no fault of my DH's or mine.
I am trying to avoid the pup as much as possible, but it's not working.
Due to my DH's long hours at work it's going to be necessary for me to take the dog out and do some other care, but we are going to arrange it so only my DH feeds him.
I don't what else to do and my DH is heartbroken that he finally gets a GSD and the pup only has eyes for me.
Help!!!!!!!!!!

Pup will get use to both of you,More so with you I would think because you spend more time with her. Have DH pick up some special "DADDY" snacks and have him and only him treat her with them see if that works.

And perhaps have daddy take the puppy to puppy school. That way all the training is happening with DH. There could always stop by McDonalds for ice cream on the way home. That would win me over anyway.

I think dogs and cats bond with who they are meant to bond with. I'm not sure you can force it.

Of course, you realize what's going to happen here. "Your" cat is going to choose to fawn over DH and "DH's" dog is going to love you best. The best laid plans of mice and men...

THat's exactly what's happened! My kitty is right now in DH's lap, while his puppy is watching every move I make.

He will bond to you both. Our male Sampson would not let either one of us out of his sight. If my husband left the country he would mope around for a few days, and then be in extra protective mode of me. He didn't like strangers coming in the house when my husband wasn't around. Sampson knew what the suitcase meant.

Keep a routine. He will learn it quickly, and adjust. He will bond to you both, but it will be in different ways. You'll see what I mean as he gets older

Thanks y'all. We're trying not to worry. After all, we haven't even had him a full day yet. It's just anything that hurts my DH hurts me even more.
Mowing the lawn was the worst! That pup stayed two feet behind me the whole time.

Awww... that's sweet though.
It'll work out. You may have to get a second dog though.

You can't make people or animals love you. They get to pick. The puppy is still young and goofy and has only been there a day. Give it time. Everything will settle out eventually. Let DH keep a stash of treats and constantly bribe the pup. Sheer greed alone will make the pupster check in with DH.

Good luck. He sure is a cutie pie (the puppy, not DH... although DH might be too. You didn't post pics of him though so I don't really know...
