I just bought a hovabator Genesis incubator. We have been reading all about them online. We would like to hear what you think about them and if you have any success stories.
Thank you

Come on guys!! Some one must have some info!
My son is checking this thread several times because he is excited about the arrival of the new incubator!

Thanks

I have a Genesis 1588 incubator, and I've had great success with it. I've had some not-so-great success, too - but the poor hatches were the result of shipped eggs - not the incubator. It's mostly a set-it-and-forget-it type incubator. I hope you have great hatches with yours!

I have a seven year old Genesis and it's great to hatch your own eggs but with shipped eggs, it sucks. My ratio of shipped eggs would be half a doz would hatch or NONE will hatch.

So its best to get your own eggs locally to hatch and its a great plug in and forget it incubator.

My syrofoam is breaking down and soon, I would need to re place it or make a incubator box and use the heating components. Great way to recycle!

I just got a Genesis 1588 this spring and last night we set our first batch of eggs. I'm very excited!
So far it seems pretty straight forward. I''ll let you know how well we did on the 28th of this month.
Good luck with yours =)

Hi Ryan,

We (my 12 year old son and I) have been hatching a lot of eggs in order to establish some birds in our flock that are not commonly locally available.

We started out with a Little Giant, and even after reading the thread and tweaking meticulously our hatch rate was not very good

except for one magical hatch (the planets must have all been correctly aligned) of 9 out of 12 shipped eggs. The eggs were very very dark BCM so all I was able to see when candling was sometimes an air sac. The Little Giant incubator was just too difficult to regluate the temerature for us, even though others seem to have success with it.

We have since switched to the Genesis 1588 and I love it

. Shipping can really decrease your hatch rate because it is hit or miss what will happen to the eggs during shipping, but once I get a viable embryo at 7-10 weeks, I have a 95%+ hatch rate in the Genesis. (The only exception to that was a genetic issue with a certain strain.) I have found that my overall hatch rate on shipped eggs averages around 60 %, so keep that in mind when purchasing hatching eggs. Some batches have been 90%+ loss and others 90%+ successful). We try to keep the humidity at around 35-40% the first 20 days, and increase to 65-70% for piping but I will go a bit higher if the chicks look "sticky". I love these incubators, and we have 3 Genesis incubators full of eggs, and am expecting the delivery of the fourth any day now, so good luck with yours

It is really nice to see younger people interested in raising chickens( judging from your Avatar). My son is "chicken crazy" and the genetics of chickens are fascinating. Good luck with your incubation, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I bought one last year, and the very first hatch in it was a 100%. It was my first 100% hatch rate, so needless to say, the 1588 is my favorite. And now, I've used it to hatch all kinds of eggs from guineas to peafowl.
