I think I have the temp stabilized. I read up on the dry method on BYC. Gonna give it my best shot!

Because the air doesn't get mixed with a fan you have layers of heat. You want your thermometer on top of the eggs to read 102.. bottom would probably read something like 98.. so right inbetween them you have the right temp. If the eggs were expensive I would run out and buy the fan. If you know someone handy with electric stuff you can get a computer fan from Radio Shack and install it.

I used to run a few Hova Bators, I always put water in them and I always had a lot of fully formed dead chicks (had about 40-50% hatch rate)... humidity was too high. I never tried incubating them dry.. but would recommend it.

I'm using hovabator 1602n. My dad installed the fan for me.
I am really happy with mine right now

12 shipped button quail eggs, 3 not fertilized, 8 developed (now in lockdown!), and 2 duds.
Duds are probably because of the humidity..

Alabama has really high humidity so it is really hard for me to keep it up. Only few drops of water changes it greatly.

As long as you have stable place to set your incubator, you are going to have a great hatch.

Thanks. I will see what the temp is tomorrow before I mess with it, my thermostat is programmed to go between the 62-68 but now it may be hotter tomorrow and that will affect the room temp.

Can you tell me what the humidity should be now which is way beofre day 18, one bator says it is 40 something and the other I think 35%. I don't mean to hog this post but since I have the same bator, hope it is OK.
