Help!, Ijust had a horrible hatch (again). Temp was perfect the whole time.I was trying the dry(somemewhat)incubation method.I added a little water when the humidity went down to around 20 or 25.I was told not to panic when it did this,so I waited 24 hours until adding water.3 days before hatch time I filled the center partition.The humidity went to 60 0r 70.Everything seemed spot on.I got 4 chicks and 2 peeped but died in their shells.Im at a loss.I It seems they were too dry. From what you describe you just need to keep the humidity a little higher during incubation & maybe increase it to 80% at lockdown.

I don't know what hovabator you have, but I have the 1588 with the digital temp and humidity readings, and ours was way off. You may want to invest in a Hydrometer (Hygrometer? I can never remember) and calibrate it. Your humidity may have just been reading wrong and was probably much lower than you thought.

I calibrated them yesterday,one was a couple % off the other was maybe 6 or 7 % off.(the salt method).temp guages were spot on. IIf the humidity is 80% outside(monsoon season)would the hygrometer read different,then if it was 40% (spring)with the same amount of water in the incubator/.It seems you could just go by the instructions(fill the center partition for 18 days then both partitions for the last 3)in the spring when the outside humidity is in the 40% range.But you have to certainly use less water in the summer monsoon season,when its in the 80% range.Last summer I drowned them (ugh). So 60% for the first 18 days and 80% for the last 3 ? time Peeps. Thx HerbThanx for your

Your room RH definitely can affect the % in the incubator. If your RH is around 40% or even 80% like you said, I don't see how you could have only 20% inside your incubator at any given point. But I am no scientist, so I could be way off on my theories. Hopefully someone can shed some more light on this for you.
