Hovabator sadness :(

Put 40 eggs in my "new" Hovabator (used once before) 7 days ago... just candled them, some are clear (expected) and some look like early death. None look like they are alive. I am new to this... looks like veining near the air sack, but the yolk is all slush and moves around. Any ideas what causes this? Wondering what I should change next time? My humidity has been around 40% - factory temp settings. Digital display says 99.6 -- thermometer inside says just under 99.5. Auto turner being used.

Whoa! Slow down there! The most you will see at day 7 is veins. If you are seeing veins, you probably have viable living eggs. I sometimes candle at day 7, but really that is about the earliest you can see veins, and day 10 they are more apparent.

if you are seeing veins, put those babies back in that incubator! Even if you have some that look like nothing, give them until day 10 or so. Some are late bloomers. Heck, unless an egg stinks, I usually don't toss them until the last candling at day 18. I have been surprised before.

I am on day 7... I left them all in. And will re-check in a few days. I also have eggs in a brinsea mini advance and I can see the embryo moving... the hovabator eggs look different. :/ But, I'm still new at this.

They may just be a little slower, or the embryos may just be floating somewhere you can't see. I have learned through mistakes that it is best to leave them in unless they stink or you are sure they are dead as doornails. I hope they do good for you. Fingers crossed!

I don't usually candle for the first time till day 15 then again on day 18 just before i go into lockdown.

Hey guys! Guess I just wasn't use to candling eggs that were incubated upright. This is the first time with the auto turner. They are fertile! Thanks for the help.

I think it could be the time of year maybe your eggs just weren't fertile.
