hover brooder ?

I am gonna build a small hover brooder it will be 4x4 base with a 2x2 hover
My question is should I install 1 or 2 light fixtures in it I dont want to roast the chicks but I dont want them to get cold either this is gonna be in an unheated barn

I'd go with two bulbs. In the event one quits the chicks won't be left in the cold. You can control the amount of heat by using lower wattage bulbs, or using a dimmer switch or thermostat set up.

what watt bulbs do you think for a 2x2 hover

I am thinking 2 bulbs one 150 watt and one 100 watt

I am also gonna build some kind of cage around them to protect the chicks
