Looooove Capybaras. The really awesome book author and Disney animator, Bill Pete, has a book about his experiences with one in "capyboppy". The ending may upset some though. But, if you can meet their needs and have a lifestyle that allows you to take care of them, they can be awesome companions.

but seriously, if you look at the face especially that front on pic, theres something very hippo-rattish about them

and when you see them wallowing through the water...
yup, giant rat and tiny hippo babies! they even have hoppo like feet with those 3 splayed toes
