I'm disappointed because on my first RB's nest all the eggs got broken, cause idiot hen #2 had to go and sit on the nest with her and fight over the eggs. They wasted 2 weeks sitting on cracked eggs. Urgh!

Now I have just one hen nesting (it's been 2 weeks!).

The third idiot hen laid a nest but keeps avoiding setting and I think the eggs might be getting old. She's laid some tiny ones and weirdly shaped ones too so I'm thinking maybe something's not well with her.

Because of the cool spring, they've delayed their nests and are about a month behind what they were last spring when they started laying in February!!

How are others doing?

I have a one year old BR Turkey that started sitting on 15 eggs.
Now about every day that I get home from work there are broken egg shells outside in the run. I checked last night and I believe I can still feel 8 eggs under her. I hope its not the Tom, I got it planned to get him separated from her as soon as I can so when the baby's hopefully come there separated. She will be two weeks on sunday. This is my first broody turkey so its all new. I had trouble with a broody chicken hen last year, that will kill the chicks as soon as they hatch. I believe I know what to do different there, is to separate her from the others. So hopefully I get some turkey poults because poulty my raise gene hasn't kicked in yet. Getting discouraged.

Our WET's are right on schedule right along with the wilds right on the blue mtn behind our home..Seen wild hens searching about for nesting areas about 3 weeks ago already,,Saturday i will be out looking to put a wild tom into the freezer..Looks like its gonna be a great day to be out and about..

Hey nice pics spydertoys!

Oharamr -- you have to take the Tom out of the pen... he is probably trying to mate with the hen since she is sitting down on the nest and that is what is cracking the eggs.

Took care of separating Tom last night. I put him in with chickens. Looks like its going to work. Was afraid he might fly out of there four foot fence but he seems to happy being with chickens, even slept inside the chicken house instead of sleeping outside.

My idiot Bourbon Red hen just keeps laying eggs and more eggs and more eggs, but she'll sit on them for a night, then not for 2 days, then for 6 hours, then a night, then not for 2 days. this has been going on for 2 weeks. I'm wondering if any of those eggs are still good and if I should put them in the 'bator instead. Anyone know?

Also, could i put 4-week old turkey eggs in the bator? I hate to throw them out. They've been under 60 degrees the whole time.

are you sure you dont have my 3 BR hens? man - sounds exactly what i've been going thru.

we ended up putting some of the eggs under hen#1 (who had the broken egg and ran away) into the bator and one just hatched!

as far as i can tell the eggs we intentionally put in the bator are overdue by 5 days and hen#2 who was sitting (kind of like an elevator - up down up down) is overdue also.

all hopes are pinned on that one little hatching.. no pressure. just kidding little peep.....

good luck!
