How bad will the addiction hit? (How big should I plan?)

Well...as others have said, you're thinking smart...thinking ahead. And even if you do not end up expanding any time soon, your six will love having extra room in a more spacious coop! I have space for 7 more, but am happy with my smaller flock as it is right now. Who knows down the road though???

currently I dont like doubling up on same coloured birds.. hopefully this pedantic tendancy will keep the numbers down :p

I only wanted fifteen, I have twenty-four. (I have four roosters), I was going to downsize them, but I love them all! It was rocky when three of them reached maturity, the fourth one just did, but they have all settled down. There is no fighting, just the primary roo showing the underlings who is the boss! Whatever dimensions you plan on, increase it by twenty-five percent and you should be just fine! (that was my case!) Enjoy, it is a fun hobby, IMHO! Theresa

I went to the farm supply store to buy four chickens I came home with seven. After some losses and some additions I now have fifteen, But don't think I am stoping there because my wife wants silkies in the spring and I want to add some other breeds. I have plans to add onto my coop in the spring as well as build a new coop for the silkies!

This chicken addiction is hard to stop!

heh, i keep mentioning to dh that i'd really like to add some more bantam cochin and faverolles hens next spring so i can breed them and improve their colors. he keeps saying to me 'don't you have enough?! and every time you tried to hatch eggs you got mostly roosters!'

i still want more and i tried sneaking in some eggs from my young girls who just started laying to put under what i thought was a broody hen. (i'll have to hold off till later this spring now)
