How Best to Ventilate a Simple Coop?

Thanks for the info. I did use deep pine shavings last winter, and my roo still got frostbite. My ventilated section is on the northeast corner of the coop, and it does get morning sun. Thanks for the tip about prevailing winds being from he west in the northern hemisphere. Would the north wind or the south wind be worse in the winter in Utah? There's a large, open field to the south of the coop.
