Hi,
I will be getting some barred rock, golden sex link, and SLW pullets next week. when I requested them they were 3 week olds but the lady hasnt been able to get to my area for her regular delivery for 2 weeks, so, the brooder box I put together for them may be too small.
I am getting 10 chicks, anyone have any pics of 5 week old chickens? how tall are they usually. I cant remember how big mine were, they are all hens now.
Any responses appreciated.

Thank you,
Laurie

Anybody? I did a search and found some pics but nothing on size. Is there a kind of growth chart anywhere?

I have some 4 1/2 week-old chicks, but i don't know how to describe to you how large they are. Are you looking for weight, height? They're pretty wiggly, so i'm not sure i can get those measurements for you.

I have a medium ish sized woman's hand, and my barred rock fits in my hand from about the tail to the chest if i hold him with his tail at my fingers and his head at my wrist. Does that help at all? I don't know that i've ever seen a growth chart.

give a a few minutes, and I'll post some for you.

I was just telling my daughter that we need to take some pics of her chicks for the weekly growth comparison.
Our chicks are 5 weeks old now, they were hatched on Feb. 14th, (Yeah,... Valentines day) lol.

we have 6 chicks in a brooder box 4' x 2' x 18" tall.
I'd say that 10 to 12 chicks would be about max. for that size box.

Here's a pic of the brooder, and the chicks at 3 1/2 - 4 weeks old...

Last week was their fist trip outside. (4 weeks old), here is a shot of some of them perched on a stack of 4x4's...

and in their temporary sunning pen, (4 weeks old),
under the watchful eye's of our highly trained, savagely fierce, blood thirsty, predator killer, "Dufess the Wonder/Watch dog",
(about the only thing she "goes after" are Lizards and Butterflies) lol....

Give me a little while, and I'll take/post some pics of them today, at 5 weeks old.
hope this helps with your brooder thoughts.

Thank you all so much, that was EXACTLY what I ned to know! now I can stop worrying and get to what needs to be done. I will brood them for a while in the basement and I started on a "mini coop and pen" inside the big chickens pen til theyre big enough to join the flock and find their place in the "pecking order" I'm figuring at about 3 or 4 months old I can mix them in with supervision.

Thank you again,
Laurie
