i want to do around 50 pheasants an50 quail how big of a pen should i build an how high.i ambgoing to hatch them an then raise them.next spring.

prob ringnecks just raising for about 15-18 weeks the will sell 90%of them same with the quail

I see, so your doing industrial type pheasant farming. Well a good rule of ten square feet per pheasant and one square foot for quail. If you want to keep the remaing pheasants and quail for pleasure the bigger the pen the better. Also ringnecks are really scittish so I would only make the pens four feet tall with soft netting, it prevents injuries.

thanks we learned that the hard way my kid wanted to make sure the black cock pheasant i just bought was o.k yesterday so she walked on it when it was sleeping woke up an flew head first into the 2x4 that the fence is tied to poor kid was so sad about killing her bird.told her they are not chickens they are wild you just watch them from far away.

Poor kid, the ringnecks have a tendancy to do that. It happened to me before. I can't go in my aviaries without them trying to 'blast off' into the sky.

If you want a pheasant that your kids can be around I would recommed the silver pheasant. They are pretty docile, tame, and they aren't as flighty as the ringnecks. Most silvers come when called, and their price isn't too high. If the funds provide you should look into it.

Poor kid!

He may have done it even if she hadn't walked in, though. My male golden did the same thing during a thunderstorm. I'd only had him a few days - I guess the combination of an unfamiliar place and a particularly violent storm freaked him out.

she is doing o.k with it we are getting a new male in a week or 2 i love watching the ringnecks hide.lol
