How big should my duck house be?

I live in So. Colorado, and it gets darn snowy and cold in the winter. One thing I failed to mentioned--the wire dog cage had a large piece of carpet draped over the top and sides. So it really wasn't just bare wires.

So they were in a dog crate with no run space? Or am I understanding you wrong?

Ha ha, good one. Their house was located in a straw-covered dirt area behind my house. It was all fenced in, with a run about 20 feet long. But outside of this, the terrain is short grass prairie. I tend to mow my weeds, and it looks like a lawn! Let me try to illustrate with photos, OK?

The ducks don't seem to mind walking on snow at all. Well, the tubby Pekin has a bit of trouble waddling. There are always places for them to be, where they are out of the snow--in the lee of my sheds, behind the garage, etc. In blizzards, they just stay in.

Oh, okay.

I was picturing 3' of snow like we get. I guess I need to review American climate again.

Hahahaha--anyone who encourages, "Go HABS," must be used to a LOT more snow than I get!!! Oh, we can get a foot or more, but it almost always goes away in a couple of days. BTW, I am in Colorado's "banana belt."
