I have 6 red sex link chicks. They are 7 weeks old. The coop that we have has a built in run that is 6x10. I would like to let them out to free range, but with all the hawks that we have I am so afraid we are going to lose one.

I would like to build a portable run that I could put them in so they can get out of their coop. How big should this run be? I would probably have them in that most of the day. And if I do this, how often should I move the run? Daily? Or a couple of times a day?

Thanks for any input.

A 5 X 10 "lightweight" run would be great. If you moved it once or twice a day you should be ok. Check out the grass and it will tell you the story you need to know. You could theoretically make a smaller tractor that can be pulled by a winch or motor very slowly so you don't have to do any moving. Just let the motor do it. Then you could make something smaller like this.

Or this
