How can I be a good mama duck?

My mallard duckling is getting bigger all the time and is almost feathered out (maybe two more weeks and she'll be ready to go outside). What should I be doing in the meantime to make sure she's ready for the big outside world? I take her on walks outside like a mama duck would and she sticks close by me. She tries to forage for food but doesn't seem to be able to eat the grass quite yet. Oh and I have to protect her from the chickens who want to chase her out of "their" yard. Sheesh. Thanks for any advice.
