well I got my laugh in for the day!! Love those legs sticking out!!!

But, poor kid, he is hugging that chicken!!!! And you are going to have to kill it? Isnt he upset about that?

Give them a shot at it. Lay the chicken on it's back and slowly wave your hand back and
forth about 10 inches above it's face, just like your hand was the shiny thing a hypnotist
would use. It took me several attempts to get it. Some people get it on their first
attempt.

Okay... I get the hand waving bit. It's the "lay them on their back" part that I'm having a hard time figuring out. How the heck do you lay them on their back and still live?

He understands they are meat birds. He gets upset when any chicken dies for no
reasons but culling is something he handles well. We ate two of those
meat birds yesterday. Him and Perfectly_Polish did the culling while I made a salad.

It sounds wierd but I'm convinced culling chickens has given him a deeper apreciation
and understanding of life. He is so far beyond where I was at his age emotionally.

P.S. A few of those meaties might end up with out laying flock. One looks just like a Welsummer.

You hold them down with one hand on their breast. After a short while you won't have to
hold them any more. They will just lay there.

Some chickens get up as soon as you stop waving. Others will stay in the same place
for 30 minutes or more.
