I just prefer clean legged and footed breeds because they are intrinsically cleaner.Could you elaborate on this?
"Especially as a broody", not in general. Your reasons for not liking feathered feet are your own person preference and respected.
4-5 per week per hen here. I occasionally get 4 eggs from 4 hens in the breed pen and do a dance!I'm not sure why, but my 2 silkie hens are some of my most prolific layers! (Well, except when they're broody lol.) I get about 5-6 *tiny* eggs from each hen a week.
Are they an anomaly?
Depends on the chickens perhaps? One of my chickens definitely goes broody within a week or max 10 days, if I leave a clutch of eggs in the nest. But only in spring and early summer.Brooding is caused by hormones, you could leave eggs in the coop for months without anyone taking the bait.
