Invite them up for a coffee break on the swing? That's what my dh does... Here he is with Pat Nixon sitting on his lap and Bess Truman near by. The missing slats on the swing are "chicken sitting spots"....

We had that problem until our dog, Trixie, impressed upon them that they do not belong on the porch. It also helps that we have a fence to contain them. They still sneak out, but run like heck when Trixie runs at them. She is 1/2 blue healer and that is her self appointed job.

I'm glad someone else gives their chickens names like "Bess Truman" and "Pat Nixon". I told my wife I was going to teach my young rooster to play tic-tac-toe, so now we have been calling him Bobby Fisher. (Yes, I do have too much time on my hands!)

Yep, the girls love platforms, they feel safer and can keep an eye on all the gossip and goings-on. Either you exclude them or build them an alternate platform conveniently located so they can soil it into oblivion...

I would go with the hose, I used it to keep them out of the garden and they dont even bother with it anymore. I will say keep the hose around, it will help clean up the poo too.
