Hello there. This is my first time being here, and I need help on raising a baby chick alone. This baby chick was born in Hilo, Hawaii to a rebel chicken, or a chicken that doesn't follow the flock. Everything went so well when all of a sudden, a pack of dogs, the neighbor's dog, Mochi and his siblings, attacked my farm, and the rebel chicken was killed, and all of its 7 babies the dogs also killed, but the 7th managed to survive. Now I adopted it and I just gotta know: How can I raise a baby chick alone?

Hi, welcome! We’re here to support you. Your chick needs: food, water, shelter and warmth. (It will also crave companionship with others.) The exact details of those needs will depend on its age. Do you know how old it is? Also, do you know if it was injured in the attack?

Shelter: for a lone chick, a large plastic bin can work as a right-now brooder. Wood shavings are a very popular floor material.

food: young chickens need chick starter crumble. Do you have any? Again for a right-now solution, chopped scrambled egg can work until you get some.

water: a shallow dish if you don’t have a chick waterer. If the chick is very young, pebbles or marbles in the dish help prevent drowning.

warmth: young chicks can’t regulate their own body temperature very well. The heat they need depends on age. a heat lamp is a popular heat source.

companionship: Chicks are super needy when alone. If you can introduce another chick it can help. Otherwise it will cheep for your attention a LOT.
