How can I save $$ on chicken feed?

I'd cut back on the feed. Chickens always act like they're starving to death but do not need to be fed 24/7. My flock gets rationed feedings and are quite healthy, beautiful birds.

Some may not agree with this, but it's what I do to limit waste.

I'd definitely do as others have suggested and look into something else eating up your feed as well.

I posted a tid bit about it in Nov. Here's the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=108516

I
fed the larvae some chicken poop this afternoon. They seemed kind of cold after the frigid weather last night, here in North Texas. It should heat them up really nicely.

I very highly recommend raising them as they really do reduce my feed bill. When the larvae are cold and down under to where they're hard to get to, the chickens really eat their regular feed.

Let me know if you need any further information.

I think you need to cut way back on the feed, I feed my 7 hens two cups of egg pellets twice a day and they are fat and happy. If you have that kind of critter problem, you definatly dont need to leave food out full time.
