How can I tell if an egg will hatch?

3 days ago my first egg hatched. The rest of the eggs have not. I have them under a small broody and sometimes they don't get a lot of heat because of the distribution of heat. This one was a small egg which was directly in the center of all her eggs. I've been waiting and yesterday I was sure another was going to hatch but it didn't. I have 4 more that I think will hatch but does anyone know if there a sure way to tell?

You could try candling them and see if you can see any movement. If you cant you could try water candling them (floating them in warm water to see if they move on their own) dont do this if there is a pip in the shell.

Well, there are several options you can choose, I will post a site that has good info on this. I will also post a video for the "float test" to see if the egg will hatch!

Just wait, and be patient! If they are a couple days overdue then I would throw them out, but otherwise all you can do is wait! If you can, post pics of the chicks, I know we'd all love to see them!:love
Hope this helps! :thumbsup

I will totally post photos!!we put them under around 3 weeks ago and I have 2 Broodies. I gave eggs to both. Me, being stupid put some eggs in one day and then more then next and this went in for maybe 3-4 days. Our rooster had just died and I was like why not!! One of the eggs is COMPLETELY black. On another thread I will post photos of all the developing eggs to see if anyone can tell me if they're going to hatch. A few I think are 1-2 days overdue but I only have 4 more (possibly). Some of the didn't get heated nicely so are taking more time to develop. Yesterday I took some eggs from her because she had too many so hopefully now she'll be able to give them good heat
