How can I tell if my hen has a broken egg still inside?

I have 3 hens (1+yr old) only 1 lays a white egg the other 2 lay a brown eggs. I get 3 eggs a day without fail. Yesterday I went to collect eggs found 1 white, one brown then the top 1/2 of another brown egg all cracked in the nest. It was only the shell no yoke. Today i got 1 white egg and 1 brown egg. I have heard of eggs breaking inside the hen. How can I tell if this has happend? I am under the impression it could be dangerous.

Are any of the hens acting "off"? You may just have an egg eater.

Nobody acting off but for some reason my brown egg layers are not laying as much as they had been. Sorry this took so long I am a nurse and did not get around to checking back in till just now. Thank you for answering.
