How can I tell who laid what?

I'd like to know exactly how that food coloring deal is done . . . how much is used, when is it administered, etc. From the way I'm picturing it, it sounds like a fairly stress free thing, because you wouldn't need more than a few drops just on the inside, right? It's not like the whole egg needs to be dyed, just a bit of a mark. I would think a rooster mating a hen would be more stressful than that, and it certainly doesn't sound like it would be any harder on a hen than artificial insemination. I think it could be an interesting experiment to try.

ETA . . . this turned up first when I google searched it, and it seems like it's exactly how I imagined it. I think I will be trying it soon. I have my suspicions as to who's laying what, but they're sneaky when it comes to laying and it will be nice to know for sure. http://www.ehow.com/how_4512905_pedigree-breed-chicken.html

Being a first timer here what you said about the Rooster paying more attention to her was interesting because I have also noticed that my one roo is following the one hen that is laying. Is this normal? Will he start noticing the other girls when they start to lay. When she is about to lay he was also do a song with her and then he will scare off the other ladies that are tryin to see what is going on lol.

I got lucky and was outside when she layed her first egg and even though I have 9 other chickens that are the same breed I know which one she is. I just hope I see the next one that starts to lay or I will be clueless also lol.
