I have 17 chicks about 6-7 weeks old but I have no idea if they are hens or roosters. Is there a way to tell?

By 6-7 weeks you can start looking at the color and size of comb. Boy's combs will get redder first and will get more pronounced (within the breed - meaning in some breeds girls get large combs - so you would not want to compare two different breeds purely by size of comb). You can also look at stance and thickness of legs - boys often have a more upright stance and thicker legs. You can also look at feathering -and in some breeds the coloring of the feathers. Check out feathersite.com and look at the differences between the boys and the girls. If you would like advice post pics that clearly show comb, legs and whole body and list age and where you got them if you can
