The difference between barred rocks and cuckoo marans?


I have 2 of these barred type babies and i cannot for the life of me tell what they are! They are so similar in type what is the difference?

Sorry the pics are not great but after reading on here on the barred rock and telling what sex they are and what not now i think either i have 2 female BR or CM i think the barring to too light for BR now after seeing pics of them as adults but mine are juvenile so not sure can anyone help me tell the difference?

Aren't the legs supposed to be different color? BR=yellow while Marans with white/slate look?

I think that they are barred rocks, but I could be wrong.

Maybe the picture is dark? all the Barred Rocks I've seen have a very crisp white on the black.

I could be wrong though. 50-50 shot with my mind. Ha ha!

not sure what CM's look like, but she looks just like my barred rock chicks!

See that's what i mean!! what makes them different? I will have to look at the leg color of mine but i see the BR with a lot more white then mine unless mine are both female BR

Hatchery stock is muddled. Very rarely will hatchery birds come close to the breed standards.

A Barred Rock's standard calls for soup bowl shaped body, yellow legs and the barring SHOULD be crisp and linear. Sadly, very few BRs from hatcheries even come close. The barring is pretty shoddy giving the BR more of a cuckoo pattern they shouldn't have.

A CM is supposed to be able to lay a very dark egg, but again, many hatchery birds will do it. The pattern isn't supposed to be barring, but cuckoo, or specked/spotted of a sort. The CM is also supposed to have white legs. Their histories are different, but again, hatchery stock is quite muddled in genetics, oft times.

Ok i will take some better pics so that way we can determine sex and what they are for sure. I don't care if they are perfect i am just really curious as to how to tell them apart for sure. I was sent the following from the hatchery

1-Silver laced Wayndotte
2- BR or CM???
5-RIR
5-JG
2- Light Brahmas
3-peanut packers of which i have no idea what they are just plain red chicks

Got 2 of these and i just love them!

First pic is a light Brahma, second looks like a production Red.

The real difference from Plymouth Rocks and Marans is the skin/leg color. Others were saying that. Marans have white skin and legs, Rocks will have dark wash on front of legs and yellow everywhere else. Barring will be muddied to cuckoo do to hatchery quality but that's hatcheries lines as they bred other breeds into lines to lay more eggs.

Ok got new pics of mine and based on what has been said here i think i may have female barred rocks but i will let you all see and say if i am correct.
