How can you tell if a hen is broody?

that says it all and how long will she sit on them?

if i dont collect eggs the eggs will she go broody?

just wondering a non chicken friend was asking me today

You can't "make" a chicken go broody.
If she is sitting on eggs all the time, she is broody. If you try to take her eggs, she may "growl," at you, and puff up. A broody will usually get off the nest once a day .... to eat, drink, and poop.

ETA: She will sit on them until they hatch .... 21 days or so.
