How can you tell the gender of a duck?

Ducks QUACK, drakes whisper/rasp. If you pick it up and it let's out a big heart quack you have yourself a duck. If you pick it up and it squeeks or peeps (after about 5 or 6 weeks) you have a drake. Curled drake feathers don't come in until about 4 months or even later. Here is an example of drake feathers. Hard to see because of the grass, but he has 2 curly-q feathers on his tail.

In some breeds, males will have green bills (mallard and Rouen) while the females bill can be yellow and brown sometimes with "freckles".
Usually Pekin males will have solid yellow bills, while females can have bluish or brown/grey spotted yellow bills.
The pekin in my avatar is a female with a blue-grey bill.

The best way to tell is wait til they are about 6 to 8 weeks old and pick one up. If offended, a female will let out a loud sharp quack and a male will give you a raspy "waah" sound.
