How can you tell the sex of ducks? I have Swedish Blues and Cayuga Swedish Blue mix

I bought these 6 ducks about a month ago. This is my first time owning ducks as chickens have always been my thing. The lady I bought them from said they were female and 6-7 months old. I wanted laying ducks but none of them have had any eggs so far. How can you tell male from female?

You vent sex ducks although unlike chickens boy ducks have a penis. I am sure you could find some places online that would explain how to do a sex check.

I know ducks are messy but I sure hope yours have places to be that are not as muddy and wet as the pictures show. Do they have dry areas and a coop for laying eggs in?

You would do that at a day old, not for this age of duck.

At this age you would listen for their quack. Females are loud and have the quack sound that we are all familiar with. Males are lower like a whisper quack. Some say it sounds like "ribbit, ribbit". Go on you tube and listen to different quacks. Also, to hear them individually you need to pick one up and take it away from the group so that it will make a sound.

Yes they do! Their pen is 200sf and have indoor and outdoor facilities… that picture is at the edge of the pond. My husband goes out most days and pushes water out of the pond in that direction and turns over the dirt so the ducks can have some fresh worms. They have a 3 sided smaller coop on the opposite end and lots of straw and it is all dry and covered in that area.

Thank you for the help. I have heard some loud quacking so I must have at least one female! I did see online pictures of “Drake Feathers” and it does look like there are a couple with that curl. I hope to have eggs sometime soon! I’ve read varying reports on the age they lay also. Thanks again!
