How close do you think she is to laying?

Her comb and wattles are bigger than my adult laying hens if the same breed now so I’m wondering if she’s close to laying, she’s also been inspecting nesting boxes

it all depends on the breed and when you got her. most breeds lay around 5-6 months for example. you get them as chicks in july around December to jan they start laying normally.

Ok, she’s a pekin bantam, I heard they take longer than usual

your mid autumn comment threw me off simply because our winter is ending here lol id say about a month or so if even.

If she's been inspecting nest boxes I'd guess 1-2 weeks. She may start, then stop once days grow shorter, but would pick up again faster than older birds would.
Oh that would be nice, problem is that my older hens see her poking around the boxes and then kick her out
