How close for the heating lamp ?

Bringing home baby new chicks and we are using a heating bulb. I’ve attached pictures but if keeping the bulb above the mesh top (to be done today) will that be too cold for the chicks ? Not sure how close to the bottom to position the heat lamp. The tub is 13” high. Thanks in advance y’all !!

You watch the chicks to tell how far, their behavior will clue you in to what they need.

You should watch to see if the chicks huddle together or if they try to get away from the heat lamp.

Yes the best is watching to see if chicks scatter comfortably under the light. They will still huddle to sleep. The first days they should briefly go to food and water then return to the light.
To get it close (or to find out if your tote will work). Check for the hottest spot to be 95F. Away from the light it needs to have a much cooler spot.
