how cold and wet can small chicken get?

We have 8 chicken about 5 weeks now they stand about 6-8 in. tall [no idea how old] made a coop last weekend not much shelter from weather in it yet. so we keep them in a large dog crate at night in house [ stinky] hubby thinks its to cold and wet to put them out in coop, today says if they were older it would be fine,[ light rain and about 56 temp. here. 65 high today.]

how cold can I let them get and them be ok and what about getting wet?
there is a cover over the back half of coop, just chicken wire around the sids so no place to get out of the weather yet [working on a perminent coop.]
coop is 4-6ft covered in chicken wire and bottom.

That age of chick will still get chilled and die pretty quickly if they don't have a draft free place to warm up and dry off.
