Genuinely not sure what’s considered too cold for ducks? I’m in zone 6B and it’s gonna drop to 8F tonight (likely colder with windchill).
They get locked into their duck house overnight, (Khaki Campbell and Cayuga) which is full of pine shavings and chopped straw. (House is made of OSB and wood, 5’ x5’, with a gap by ceiling to let out moisture, and with no insulation in the walls) and but it keeps out the wind.
Will they be okay that cold at night or should I bring them inside the basement (kept around mid-high 50 degrees).
I’m concerned about putting them inside overnight and letting them out in the morning cause the temperature change if they don’t acclimidate well. We’re expecting cold 3 days here (single digits possibly negatives at night) and would like to let them roam outside and not keep them coupled up and bored inside the basement if I can.
I will not add a heat lamp to their coop. I have plenty of straw to add if needed and there’s a bin inside there house for them to get snuggly in.
