How cold is too cold?

It;s been 10 degrees and our Silkies love to go in the mostly covered run. We
cut a pumpkin in half and put it out there and they loved it.

We have soil covered with small pebbles in the run and they love to dig. We also have a small sand box for them. This gives them the digging, walking, activities they love.

I have 20 hens some young ones just starting to lay. out of the 20 I get 2 to 6eggs a day through the winter. They don't like the snow ore the cold. I open the poop door every day, they don't go out for long and mostly hang out under the coop when they do. I have watched them literally jump out of the coop and run under the coop FAST so they don't walk in the snow. I have heated waterers so lack of water is not causing them to lay less. we don't heat the coop so it does take a lot of energy to keep warm. I have 2 leghorns and they have lain an egg almost every day all winter.

Here in Southern New England its mighty cold and the weatherman forecasts much colder weather

I too wonder what is "too cold"

I get six eggs pretty much every day from our six hens

they haven't been out of their coop since Tuesday's blizzard conditions and I'm hoping that they will opt to venture out tomorrow

they wouldn't come out after the first snow storm in December until I put down a piece of scrap carpet ... unfortunately its now covered with snow and I don't have another piece to put there

The coop has no electricity and I change their water 2-3 times during the day.
