There are two boys in our 4-H club who just recently joined. One is 13 and the other just turned 10. Both of them are very much into raising chickens, and the 13 year old reminds me of myself at that age. He just absolutely loves his birds and he wants to learn everything he can about them.
About a month ago he put 10 eggs in the incubator and this past week they have been hatching. The first two that were due unfortunately died before they could hatch. I felt soo bad for him! He really took that hard, but it was a good learning experience. Today he had a single chick hatch and lately every few hours I have been getting worried phone calls from him or his brother. Just recently they called to ask if it was normal for the chick to roll around after hatching!
They have such innocent questions and I just think it is adorable! This morning he called at 7am and left a message. On the message I hear his mom in the background yelling "It's too early to call a college kid!". I totally LOL'd at that one!
So cross your fingers for these boys that they get a few more to hatch! They still have 7 eggs in the incubator, all due a day or two apart from each other (his mom told me that apparently he kept sneaking more eggs in every day without her knowing
