how dark will a golden marans egg be?

It might depend on where you got them. Different lines might have lighter or darker eggs.
I have 2 Golden Cuckoo Marans, which is what I assume you mean by Golden Marans
I got mine from Melissa at NoneSuchFarm.net
They are beautiful birds. I call them Peaches and Cream. They dont' care what I call them.

I would say mine lay about a 4 on this chart. Not as dark as a Black Copper Maran's but a nice dark egg.

(I borrowed this egg chart)

we got them as laying hens from a breeder she said they came from some of the best lines so im hoping for pretty dark

Plumage colour has no correlation with egg shell colour. The expected egg colour will depend on the colour of the mothers eggs, and the colour of the paternal grandmothers eggs.

Actually, the research I've done indicates Marans egg color comes from the paternal side only; thus, it's always best to keep a rooster that was hatched from ther VERY darkest egg.

Seems there's lots of opinions out there as to what factors in on egg color, but if you always hatch only the darkest eggs, you should have no trouble keeping that nice, dark egg color in your flock.
