For those of you not using the deep litter method, how deep are the shavings in your coop? And for those of you using the deep litter method, what is the average and deepest depth that yours reach? I'm designing my dropping pit and am trying to determine how high I need to make based on the litter method I choose. Thanks!

By the end of winter mine hits about 5 inches of packed bedding. Then there will be about 4 inches of loose bedding on top.

During the winter I have about 4-5 inches of shavings for warmth and in the warmer months I have about 2 inches. I clean them out(especially under the roosts) about once a month, more often if it starts to smell. At each time I clean out the nest boxes, throwing the shavings from there onto the floor and put nice clean ones in the boxes. Merry
