Q. WHich male is the father of Son #1? Is this a red base or a black based that is modified?
Q.Son #2 is fathered by Black Sexlink because he is the only source of the barring. I'm trying to understand the feather color. ANd what this says about the mother's color genetically.
My head is in a twist trying to understand.
I would like to know if either male can be used in siring RED sexlinked chicks.
THis is what I think I understand:
Son #1--MAYBE can sire black sexlinks, not red sexlinks.
Son#2 --very likely can sire red sexlinks.
My guess would be the Black Sexlink rooster as the father of both. Looking at your hen she has the look (not saying mixed with just the coloring) of a Dark Cornish, which I believe is a partridge type coloriong itself, so I'd guess that the son took back after her and her side of the family.
Also I think that with the SSH you'd have gotten rosecombs. Not sure about that but I think the rosecomb is dominant.
By the way, both roosters are very pretty but I especially like the partridge colored one.
