how did the fox get in?

The jump would be nothing to a fox. Time will tell on your hen. You can dig a trench around the complete perimeter of the coop. fasten hardware cloth around the bottom of the coop and a good foot into the ground and bury it. It is actually effective to have the hardware cloth come out at an angle about that far. It doesn't have to be buried if it lays on the ground horizontally from the base of the structure. Make sure it is fastened securely to the coop.

Red fox, or grey fox. Also is that a piece of plywood used a door to the doghouse part of the coop. Grey fox are really good climbers and climb trees. Plywood could be pushed out a bit. It doesn't take much. Plus it looked like it didn't cover the complete door,.

Those windows look much better, now. You did a good job. The suggestion for adding wire at the bottom of the coop around the outside is a good one, especially since you can do it right away and still have the chickens in the coop while you work on it. Wire on top of the ground, attached to the coop, would prevent digging. You can bury it just enough to cover it, to make it lie flat or else just stake it down.

What is the better money/time investment, the electric wire around or a cement floor? The plywood was just a piece of wood I was about to hammer into that window slot to protect the smaller one. They live in the giant old dog house which has a floor. That window was the weak point of that part. going to redo the right window and make it like that other. got to get more wire.

thanks
