how did their wings get like this?

i just got 2 silkies and their wings seem to be all tattered up. They cant fly, and when the loose one of the wing feathers you can see that the upper part has all the fluff peeled of. Do these wings look like they were clipped, or do you think it could be from the cage wire they were in?

I don't see anything wrong. Looks like normal wing feathering for a Silkie. Their wing feathers won't be Silkied but they also won't be fully formed feathers either. They're suppose to look tattered.

normal.... you should see my silkie - she has see thru spots from moulting.... cotton balls drifting around everywhere.... your's look fine

I thought that too when I first got silkies...thought I got some duds but they were wonderful silkies

Your wings look nice and tight too which is a good thing

Whoops! Edited to add.....Silkies can't fly. They sleep on the floor in a pile instead of roosting. Or sometimes in nest boxes.
