How did I get a buff chick out of a black roo and a lavender hen??

Well, Sometimes you don't get what you expect. Once I bred my chocolate lab whose pedigree had only chocolates and yellows to my friends dog who was a yellow lab whose pedigree was all chocolates and yellows and everylast one of the 15 pups was a black lab. The whole genetics model that most people learned in high school biology is not quite accurate as the data was skewed slightly to make it work for eye color and blood type. Sometimes genetics takes a giant leap backward in the DNA to find like genes and that is why your chicken is buff.

Maybe your rroo is a buff with a LOT of menanizers? Just when you think you understand genetics, you get shown that you don't lol! I have a pair of blacks who have thrown 100% mottled so far...
