How did you find your egg customers?

Here is a question. I have never sold a dozen eggs, but I have given 3 dozen eggs away and they were all brought back. Is it because I live in the city? These people don't anything about chickens. City code says I can have 10 chickens. Wonderful, so I have Brahmas, Buff Orpington, and Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. All the eggs look different. People don't like that. BUT! before giving them the eggs i told them this, the all look different, color, size, exc. The appearance irks them. Oh, the difference between a meat spot by the yolk, and " I found blood in my egg". All sorts of misunderstandings. My hens never brood. I don't know why, but they never sit on the nest box long enough to even start development. Anyone these have these issues?

City slickers....lol....don't know a good egg when they see one!! A lot of people are accustomed to store bought. Many years ago I stayed at a friends house for the weekend. I brought fresh eggs from my grandfathers farm for breakfast. She was shocked when she opened the carton and saw the different shades of brown. "Brown eggs, I've never seen them before. What kind are they she asked? Me being dumb-founded at her question and suprised she never had farm fresh eggs before replied "Ostrich, there the best you'll ever have!"

We don't need it to be profitable, pluse lots of other keep chickens so we can't price them too high. We sell ours @ 1.50 a doz or 18 for 2. Mostly we give them to dh's coworkers and niegbors with the thought they are like crack and once you're hooked they could cost a million dollars

We had one guy complain they were too dark, so he just doesn't buy them anymore. Several have asked about the green eggs, and hubby had to google it on his phone and show them some just come that way

We would like to biuld our client base, but production has declined the last two wks so it's not a priority.

I had a nice couple of folks at school that wanted eggs.. well word spread and BAM-- FOUR BROODY hens at once.. hoping everyone remembers me when school starts back.

I always send visitors home with a a dozen. First dozen is free, then $3 after that. Once they have had them, they are hooked. I also have many of my coworkers as customers.

I have 20 hens, at $3/doz that covers their feed and we are able to eat as many eggs as we like. Our profit is small but we probably eat about 1-2 dozen a week depending on what I make, so thats $3-$6 a week

So sad. Find some folks that appreciate good eggs. They are out there, find folks who originally come from the country. My customers buy eggs from me BECAUSE my eggs are all different. I think you have had a run of weirdos, that's all.

When I was a kid we had arucaunas (sp) and Barred rocks. We sold eggs all the time, all word of mouth. On guys bought a dozen arucauna eggs. His grandkids didn't want to try them because they weren't white.... so he finally persuaded them to each try a fried egg. Without them knowing it, he put a quarter under each one as he cooked them. After they found the money, they didn't want anything BUT the green and blue eggs!

Oh....LOL...dont get me started about the faces these people make when they see an orange yolk. Orange instead of yellow. So , everything bothers these people, the shell color, the size, the yolk color. I know I have no revenue in my neighborhood. They look at me with hesitant wonder as why do I have chickens.
